We are committed to creating the best quality free-range pork. Our pigs are a cross of a Duroc boar (named Kevin Bacon) with Tamworth sows. Both these breeds produce very lean meat and are ideal for raising outdoors. We do things differently here from the way most pig farms keep their animals. Our pigs are raised in a more natural way. All modern pigs are descended from wild boar. We believe that pigs are happier and healthier if they are kept in the same environment as their forest ancestors. In fact the term free-range does not do justice to the way we raise our pigs and we prefer the description 'forest fed'. They roam freely across 75 acres of woodland and pasture. Some free-range farms restrict their pigs to just a few acres in a field. We never keep more than 2 or 3 pigs in an acre of forest. They forage for many different kinds of food, including nuts, roots, fruits, and mushrooms. This natural food gives their meat a rich, distinctive flavor that intensively raised pork lacks. In addition to a more natural diet, the freedom the pigs enjoy means that they live lives that are comparatively stress free. We believe that this too improves the flavor of the meat. We also do not give our pigs any hormones or antibiotics.
We treat our animals humanely and this means that they grow more slowly than conventionally raised pigs. But in our opinion the quality of our pork is far superior.
No artificial colorings, flavorings or preservatives are used in our pork. When the meat is packaged it is kept frozen until sold.
We welcome visitors to the farm and see how we raise our pigs. Please let us know if you want to visit and we will make time to show you around.
